A short insight into the budding career of West Bromwich Albion forward — Eseosa Sule.

West Bromwich Albion were largely unsuccessful in the January Transfer Window, loaning in PL winner Marc Albrighton & picking up ex-Chelsea midfielder Nathaniel Chalobah — both of whom have failed to impress Baggies fans. One signing which may have gone under some radars was the acquisition of promising Scottish-Nigerian forward - Eseosa Sule (17).

Sule signed his first professional contract with Celtic last summer after impressing at the 2022 Generation Adidas Cup (An Elite Youth Tournament) — helping the Glaswegian side finish top of Group H. Eseosa decided to end his ten-year association with the Scottish side in January 2023, paving the way for him to sign for West Bromwich Albion.

Eseosa seems to have hit the ground running at The Hawthorns, impressing academy bosses at U18 level against the likes of Spurs, Southampton & Chelsea respectively. As a result of his promising performances, Sule made the step up to the U21’s and recently scored his first goal for the club vs Leeds U21’s.

In this Q&A, Eseosa will be shining a light on his career so far, his playing style and the motives behind his move to the Baggies.

Q&A

1) Which position/s have you played throughout your career? Which position/s do you feel most comfortable playing in?

I have played as a striker, but sometimes I play off the left and rarely on the right. I’m more comfortable playing striker and off the LW.

2) What would you say are your main physical and technical attributes? What are the most important aspects you can bring to a side?

My speed and ability to get behind the defence. I like to play on the shoulder of the defence.

3) What player/s would you say you are most similar to in terms of playing style (current/past)?

I admire a lot of players, past and present, and watch them so I can learn from their style. I admire players like Rashford (Manchester United), Rafael (Leao) in Milan, Osimhen in Napoli. However, I believe that I’m unique and like to be myself when I play.

4) How long have you been in Celtic’s youth academy? Have you played for any other teams previously?

I joined Celtic’s academy when I was 6 years old. I have not played for any other teams (prior to Celtic).

5) You signed your first professional contract with Celtic last Summer, what made you choose West Brom as your next step?

Every footballer’s dream is to play for the first team one day. West Brom offers a pathway. It’s up to me to utilise the opportunity that I have been given. I’m very happy with my progress since joining West Brom.

7) Over the years, West Brom have shown that there is a pathway in to the first team for youth players — do you feel confident you can replicate this over the next few years too?

I am confident in the pathway West Brom offers. I believe in the process. I’m confident in myself, however, I take it one day at a time.

Finally, I would just like to say congratulations on the move and thank you for taking the time to answer these questions. Looking through the footage available I can see that you’re a very talented player that has settled in quickly at The Hawthorns — I wish you the best at West Brom and in your career.
